Internships

We are all told that internships are a good way to start off our careers. (http://www.rhodeislandintern.com/) But how do we choose between so many and there are many other college students looking for the same thing you are. There are pros and cons to interning. (http://www.geog.byu.edu/internHandbook.dhtml) It's hard to find an internship with the level of competition and they expect you to have a certain amount of skills for these internships. Employers turn you down because you are not qualified enough, but how can you learn without being given the chance. Writing a resume and cover letter can be stressful at times trying to figure out what to write down. (http://www.bestsampleresume.com/) (http://jobsearch.about.com/od/coverlettersamples/a/coverlettsample.htm). Though schools, such as URI have a directory of internships they had students recieve in the past none of the are updated to the current year so the amount of internships available are unclear. (http://www.com.uri.edu/internship/int_pal/index.php) I personally just find it hard to search through the internet and ask around just for an internship, I feel like there should and can be an easier way to get one and that every student needs to have one during their college life because it really is a resume booster to have acquired skills in your specifc field.

Friday Night Lights

I've just started a new obsession with this show called Friday Night Lights. It originally aired in 2006 and has had 6 seasons so far. I watched a view episodes on television, but I couldn't wait for the next episode so I went and bought the first two seasons on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V5VJP4/ref=atv_dp_season?ie=UTF8&redirect=true). The show is mainly about football in a place called Dillon, Texas. Football brings the entire town together no matter who you are or the color of your skin or the clothes you wear. It forms a sense of community where everyone has a common ground of loving it (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758745/). The show is originally aired on nbc on friday nights at 8pm (http://www.nbc.com/friday-night-lights/), now abc family airs the show every week night at 6 pm from the beginning of season one. http://abcfamily.go.com/shows/friday-night-lights?cid=afm_psg_comsearch_FNL&kmed=ppc. This show is about friends, family, and learning from your mistakes because we all make mistakes. Here is one of the episodes; http://www.hulu.com/watch/169462/friday-night-lights-thanksgiving. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do...and if not no big deal we all have our guilty pleasures!
